Does Luffy Defeat Big Mom? (How & When) (2023)

Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga, is known for his many epic fights but not all of the epic fights from the One Piece series have been Luffy’s. Namely, some other characters have also had their big moments and this article is going to tell you about one of them. If you’ve read about what happened in Wano Country, you’ll know that Big Mom has finally been defeated (along with Kaido). But did Luffy defeat Big Mom? We shall give you all the answers in this article.

Luffy was not the one who defeated Big Mom in One Piece. In fact, Big Mom was finally defeated by the combined efforts of Eustass Kid and Trafalgar D. Water Law, who managed to defeat her in Wano Country. This happened in Chapter 1040 of the One Piece manga, and has yet to be shown in the anime as of the time of writing.

How and when did Kid and Trafalgar Law defeat Big Mom?

The events we are about to describe took place in Chapters 1015 to 1040 of the One Piece manga. They are related to the final clash between Kid, Trafalgar Law and Big Mom and will tell you exactly how the two managed to defeat the feared Emperess

As Big Mom and Kid fought, they heard a message being broadcast all over the island that Luffy, who had been defeated by Kaido, would return, though Big Mom scoffed that it was just a lieto maintain samurai morale. Law then joined the fight. During their battle, Big Mom was surprised to see a large dragon, which she mistook for Kaidou, smash through the floor and upwards through the ceiling.

When Kid seemed distracted by strange headaches during the fight, Big Mom attempted to hit him with a Napoleon strike infused with Hera’s lightning, but was foiled by an attack from Law. Prometheus attempted to burn Law through the air, while Big Mom used Napoleon’s lightning-infused blade on Kid, who was still in unexplained pain.

Big Mom mocked the Pirate Captain, saying he looked like he was dying before she even landed the killing blow. However, Kid finally got up, with Big Mom noting that he seemed to have had a second wind. Big Mom then blasted Kid out of the tower and chased after him, but Law used his awakened Devil Fruit powers to pierce his sword through Big Mom’s body and release a powerful electric shockwave inside her, making her mouth bleed.

When she turned her attention to Law, Kid then used his own awakened Devil Fruit to magnetize Big Mom’s body, causing all nearby beams and metal objects to electrify. Enraged, Big Mom emerged from the pile of rubble and used her Soul Pocus to steal the lives of the nearby Hundred Beasts Pirates, using it to turn nearby metal beams into homies, as well as empower Prometheus, Napoleon, and Hera.

She then consumed the equivalent of a year of her own lifespan to increase her size and strength. After congratulating Law and Kid for managing to hurt her for the first time in decades, she challenged them to try to take her position as Emperor and would once again fight the two alongside her newly created homies, after igniting her hair with Prometheus.

She quickly proved victorious, defeating both Kid and Law while taunting them over their respective crews’ pleas to spare them more harm. Annoyed by their pleas, Big Mom asked Hera to punish them with Tenman Daijizai Tenjin, reminding them that they were on a battlefield where pity and mercy had no place.

Sensing that the fight was finally over, Big Mom ordered Hera to move her to the roof, annoyedly remarking that Kaido’s victory cry had yet to be heard and he still had to fight Luffy. As she was about to head up to the roof, she didn’t notice Law coming back, who used his moment to stab her with K-ROOM, stabbing her the face. Before she could react, he attacked her once more with Shock Wille, causing Big Mom to bleed from the mouth, dropping Napoleon as well as Hera.

After her newly created homies were assimilated by Kid, she annoyedly remarked that they were really planning on defeating her, which Kid confirmed before forming a bull from the metal and using Punk Corna Dio to ram the bull into Big Mom and send her into a wall. Big Mom gets back up after Kid’s attack and admits that he and Law broke her several ribs and even her wrist.

She trains Maser Saber with her homies and cuts Kid’s mechanical bull (although he easily reforms it as it is constructed from scrap metal). She states to the two of them that she sent several upstarts to pull her heads into a watery grave and that she ruled the oceans for decades before they were born. Kid, however, assigns a south pole to her forehead and a north pole to the wall behind her, which magnetizes her.

Although she cannot free herself to avoid Kid’s next bull attack, she moves the entire wall to block the impact, then creates a new Homie from fire and lightning named Misery which attacks Kid. Suddenly, Law warps a tower above her head, which crushes her, and while she is on the ground, Law stabs her with his K-ROOM-coated sword all the way across the island and to the continent of Wano, where despite her best efforts to knock him down, he unleashes a powerful shockwave attack that leaves her badly damaged and hanging over the hole Law made.

She then gets blown up by Kid’s railgun attack, which also injures her. Big Mom resists Kid’s attack and tries to use her Soul Pocus to steal the lifespan of Kid and Law’s crews, but Kid and Law resist her because they have no fear of her and Law uses R-ROOM to silence her, and stop her from stealing souls while destroying Misery.

Kid blasts her again with Damned Punk and this time pushes her into the hole, where she crashes into the armory. She ends up hitting one of the bombs that Yamato froze, causing it to explode and blow a hole in the bottom of the island, into which she falls, still silenced by Law.

Unable to call Prometheus and Hera for help, all Big Mom can do is fall down the hole on the mainland with several other explosives, where she mentally curses Roger for starting “The Golden Age of Piracy” before he died and sent tons of young pirates after his head, and how he could have at least said something about One Piece before he died. Before being engulfed in the explosion, she also curses Kid and Law and tells them that it won’t be enough to kill her.
