Anime fans love fantasizing about the romantic relationship in their favorite shows, and One Piece is no exception. Eiichiro Oda has been creating new characters for over 23 years. This makes the range of possibilities and combinations that the fans can create limitlessly. However, some fan relationships make sense somehow, while others are not so much.

When asked about the Romance in One Piece, Eiichiro Oda gave the fans a vague answer stating that “they are all in love with adventure.” With no clear answer from the writer himself, the fans rely solemnly on the hints and comedy embedded in the story to form these theories.
CBR VIDEO OF THE DAY
10 Makes Sense: Robin x Zoro
Since their very first meeting, an intense vibe emerged between Zoro and Robin. Although Robin did her best to appeal to Zoro and please him, the latter kept his guard up pretty much all the time. However, when the crew reached the Sky Island, things started to change.
For instance, Zoro started trusting Robin more and more, the two started to get along with each other, but most importantly, Zoro protected Robin in atrue chivalry scene. Since then, the two started having a nice relationship that made the fans daydream about them as love birds.
9 Doesn't Make Sense: Mihawk x Perona
The first encounter between Perona and Dracule Mihawk happened after Kuma sent Perona flying first class on an extended vacation. Perona found herself on a strange Island and took refuge in Dracule Mihawk’s palace. Mihawk let her stay in his palace, and from there on, she stayed by his side.
Certainly, Mihawk and Perona appear to be suiting each other; with Mihawk named after Dracula and Perona being the queen of ghosts. However, Mihawk is way out of Perona’s league. Being an introvert like Mihawk does not basically mean that he would fall for Perona, especially that he is a person who visited all of the four seas and who stands neck to neck with Red Head Shanks.
8 Makes Sense: Luffy x Boa Hancock
The Amazon Lily arc is one of the best comedy arcs that Oda slapped into his fans’ faces. By introducing a powerful, narcissistic, and beautiful character as that of Boa Hancock, Oda gave the narrative a fresh vibe. However, the amount of comedy that merged from this arc is absolutely on another level. The narcissistic queen of Amazon Lily falls in love with the most stupid man there is, Monkey D Luffy. On the other hand, Luffy doesn’t care at all about how beautiful this girl is, which makes her fall for him even more.
RELATED:
What makes this combination a valid one, to some extent, is the fact that Boa Hancock can destroy any girl who might compete with her. Besides, the level of comedy when the couple Luffy x Hancock appears is absolutely hilarious. A level that is suitable for the Pirate King Luffy.
7 Doesn't Make Sense:Luffy x Vivi
Nefertari Vivi accompanied the Straw Hats for afair amount of time as one of their Nakama. Luffy saved Vivi from certain death and rescued her entire country by defeating Crocodile. The fact that she was aboard the Going Merry and that she is a princess does not mean that something might happen between her and Luffy.
There is little to no evidence of such a relationship, especially that Luffy has met many princesses along the way and helped them the same way he did with Vivi. Of course, the two respect each other and will meet again in the future. However, this does not mean that a romantic relationship might happen.
6 Makes Sense: Sanji x Viola
Viola is another princess that the crew has met along the way in Dressrosa. In this arc, Oda granted Sanji one of his wishes. Dressrosa is a perfect mock-up of Spain and Italy at the same time. Both of which are cities of love and romance, same as Dressrosa. Viola and Sanji lay eyes on each other in a hot romantic scene to fall for each other afterward.
The gentleman Sanji falls into Viola’s trap, yet he believed in her. This only made Viola fall for Sanji even more. However, the narrative takes another turn, and the two lovers had to be separated. Nevertheless, Sanji promised Viola that he would go back for her, making the theory valid somehow.
5 Doesn't Make Sense: Law x Robin
The first meeting between Trafalgar Law and Nico Robin was in Punk Hazzard. After joining their forces, Law accompanied the Straw Hats aboard the Sunny Go. When it comes to arguments, both Law and Robin seem to have the same reasoning and logic. For sure, they are brilliant individuals with a sharp eye for details.
Moreover, they flex their muscles the most when planning and using their devil fruit abilities wisely. However, there are no hints that prove/disprove a romantic relationship between the two.
4 Makes Sense:Shanks x Makino
Red Head Shanks is perhaps the strongest emperor of the sea. His history and life are still under the cover. Still, the narrative has shown little that can account for a romantic theory. Makino is the bartender/owner in Foosha village (Luffy’s hometown), and Shanks is one of her regular customers.
RELATED:One Piece: 10 Facts Everyone Should Know About Shanks
Apart from the friendly relationship, the only thing that hints at a serious relationship between the two is Makino’s child. Fans suspect this child to be Shanks’ little kid. The narrative did not show anyone who might be Makino’s husband, leaving Shanks as the closest person to Makino, thus the theory.
3 Doesn't Make Sense: Zoro x Hiyori
In the arc of Wano, Zoro happened to crossroads with Hiyori. She is the daughter of Kozuki Oden and Momonosuke’s little sister. Again, Oda has a thing for the crew and Princesses. Being the most beautiful girl in all of Wano, Hiyori’s charm is a fever that strikes every man that lays eyes on her, but not Zoro. In a dramatic scene, Zoro wakes up next to this hot girl sleeping by his side.

Moreover, in the middle of a heated action scene, Zoro steals Sanji's lights and saves Hiyori in a chivalrous way. However, as in Luffy and Vivi's case, there are no clues that prove or even hint at something between the two.
2 Makes Sense: Sanji x Pudding
Although Charlotte Pudding was scheming to kill Sanji, she actually ended up falling for him. Not only that, they worked together to prepare a substitute wedding cake to stop Big Mom’s rampage, but they were also so close to getting married. The narrative also showed that the two love birds knew each other since childhood.
Sanji, on the one hand, has a crush on Pudding, although she betrayed him. On the other hand, Pudding fell for Sanji because he was the only one who admiredher third eye. In his usual way, Oda draws a romantic comedy scene for the two love birds. Although she has a twisted personality thatstops her fromadmitting her love, Pudding is a nice sweet girl who suffered from an unbearable childhood.
1 Doesn't Make Sense: Ussop x Nami
Back to the fan relationships inside the Straw-hat crew. One of the craziest theories suggests a love relationship between Ussop and Nami. The only person that scares the Monster Trio (Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro) is Nami. Although she beats those three like hell, Nami never gets her hands on Ussop.
In fact, there are many common things between the two, such as both are weak and get scared easily, and that both of them use twisted tricks to get what they want. They really match each other on many levels. However, the same reasons that suggest a relationship between the two suggest otherwise.
