The ratio of traditional shortbread is always the same: 2:1:1/2 flour, butter, sugar. Always. However, it is the technique that makes all the difference with this seemingly simple delicate and seriously revered holiday masterpiece. The flour and the sugar are combined. The typical cookie method has the sugar and butter creamed together first.


Traditional French Canadian Sugar Pie Just Plain Cooking Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease several cookie sheets. In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar; add egg, maple syrup and vanilla, mixing until well blended. Sift or whisk together flour, baking soda and salt; add this mixture to creamed mixture and stir until well blended. Shape into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar.
